Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has strongly condemned the detention of Congress leader and Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi during the INDIA bloc’s protest march towards the Election Commission in New Delhi. He also condemned the detention of Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and Congress general secretary K.C. Venugopal. Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi and several other opposition leaders were detained during the October 6 protest demanding action against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and opposing the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls.
Revanth Reddy said that forcibly detaining leaders who were peacefully protesting for the protection of democracy was against democratic principles. He said arrests, jail terms and lathi-charges were not new to the Gandhi family or Congress leaders. Revanth Reddy asserted that the Congress would continue its campaign over what it describes as irregularities in the Election Commission until its demands, including Gyanesh Kumar’s resignation, are addressed.
