The Telangana government has decided to review the fares of the recently introduced RTC–Metro Common Pass to make it more affordable for commuters, State Transport and BC Welfare Minister Ponnam Prabhakar said. The decision comes amid repeated complaints from passengers that the current prices are too high. The government is examining public feedback and the prevailing circumstances before taking a decision. At present, the daily Common Pass costs ₹400, of which ₹300 goes to the Metro and ₹100 to the RTC. The monthly pass is priced at ₹8,500, with ₹7,000 allocated to the Metro and ₹1,500 to the RTC.
The minister said the government decided to reconsider the fares following suggestions from Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka, as concerns have been raised about the financial burden on ordinary commuters. A meeting with senior officials will be held soon to discuss suitable pricing. The government aims to strengthen public transportation and encourage more people to use RTC and Metro services. Ponnam Prabhakar stated that the revised pricing would take public feedback and commuters’ needs into account, with the objective of introducing a convenient and affordable Common Pass system.
