Sundar Pichai, the Chief Executive Officer of Google, shared three important success lessons while addressing graduates at a recent commencement ceremony at Stanford University. Known for his calm and thoughtful leadership style, Pichai emphasized the importance of maintaining a positive outlook regardless of circumstances. Recalling his early days in California, he explained how one person saw dry grass while another saw a “golden landscape,” highlighting the value of viewing challenges through an optimistic lens.
Pichai also encouraged young people to take on difficult challenges rather than choosing the easiest path. He cited the development of the Chrome browser as an example, noting that a small team pursued what many considered an impossible task and eventually achieved remarkable success. Finally, he advised graduates to pursue work that genuinely excites and inspires them. According to Pichai, true fulfillment and long-term success come from working in areas that create enthusiasm, purpose, and a positive impact on society.
