Supreme Court Gives Sonam Two Options

The Supreme Court heard the bail matter of Sonam Raghuvanshi, the prime accused in the Raja Raghuvanshi honeymoon murder case. During the hearing, a bench comprising Justices M.M. Sundresh and P.B. Varale said it had two options either direct Sonam to surrender until the examination of key prosecution witnesses is completed or consider the merits of the case before issuing further orders. The court is hearing Meghalaya government's plea challenging the High Court's decision to uphold her bail.

Sonam's counsel informed the court that the trial court had already imposed strict conditions, including staying in Shillong and attending the trial daily. The Supreme Court said it would ensure fairness to both sides before taking a final decision. Sonam is accused of murdering her husband Raja Raghuvanshi during their honeymoon in Meghalaya in May 2025. After her arrest in June 2025, she was granted bail by a sessions court in April 2026, which was later upheld by the Meghalaya High Court. The state government subsequently challenged the order in the Supreme Court.
