Supreme Court Imposes Restrictions on Court Videos

The Supreme Court of India has imposed strict restrictions on the unauthorised use of court hearing videos and audio recordings on social media and other digital platforms. The Court directed that no recordings of court proceedings may be uploaded, stored, shared or broadcast without prior permission. The move is aimed at preserving the dignity of judicial proceedings and protecting the integrity of the justice system.

The Supreme Court also stated that editing, monetising, downloading or reposting court hearing videos without authorisation would be treated as a violation of its directions. However, the Court provided significant relief to media organisations by clarifying that there are no restrictions on reporting court proceedings through legitimate news coverage, allowing journalistic reporting to continue without interruption.
