Supreme Court Makes Key Remarks on Jantar Mantar Protests

The Supreme Court of India on Monday heard a matter concerning protests and demonstrations at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi. During the hearing, the Court asked the Solicitor General to consult the Central Government on identifying an alternative venue for public protests. The Bench also examined the argument that Jantar Mantar may no longer be an appropriate location for conducting demonstrations.

The Court observed that a balance must be maintained between the citizens' right to protest peacefully and public convenience. It sought the Centre's response on the feasibility of earmarking a suitable alternative site for demonstrations and adjourned the matter for further consideration after receiving the government's views.
