The Supreme Court on Monday, October 5, 2026, reprimanded actor Rajpal Yadav for failing to comply with its September 15 order directing him to deposit ₹2 crore out of ₹5 crore in outstanding dues with the court registry. A bench comprising Chief Justice of India Surya Kant, Justice Joymalya Bagchi and Justice V. Mohana was hearing seven cheque-bounce cases filed by M/s Murali Projects Pvt. Ltd. in connection with a 2013 film loan.
During the hearing, Yadav’s counsel submitted a demand draft for ₹50 lakh and cited bank closures for the delay. The court rejected the explanation and strongly criticised the manner in which the matter was handled. Justice Bagchi made stern observations, including that Yadav could face jail, while the bench said he had been given two weeks and could have sought an extension through an interlocutory application. Chief Justice Surya Kant directed that the ₹2 crore payment be completed by Tuesday, October 6, with the matter to be listed again on October 7.
