Supreme Court Refuses Immediate Hearing on Protest Issue

The Supreme Court refused to take suo motu cognizance of the alleged police action during a Cockroach Janata Party protest, declining an urgent hearing on the matter. Advocate Narendra Mishra mentioned the issue before a bench headed by Chief Justice D.Y. Chandrachud, seeking immediate intervention. He stated that students were protesting against the NEET paper leak and demanding reforms in the National Testing Agency, and alleged that police used excessive force against them.

When the lawyer offered to present video evidence of the incident, the Chief Justice declined, stating that the court did not have time to review such material and asked not to waste the court’s time. Earlier, the Delhi High Court also refused an urgent hearing on a similar plea, remarking that the court should not be dragged into such disputes. However, there are expectations that the High Court may take up related petitions soon.
