The Supreme Court has dismissed the Andhra Pradesh government’s petition seeking to provide 34% reservations for Backward Classes (BCs). The petition challenged the Andhra Pradesh High Court’s ruling on the issue. The Supreme Court upheld the High Court’s decision, rejecting the state government’s plea.
The Supreme Court reiterated that total reservations should not exceed the 50% ceiling. The ruling is a setback for the Andhra Pradesh government’s move to provide 34% reservations for BCs. The state’s proposed reservation policy will have to comply with the legal limits laid down by the courts.
