

Senior IPS officer Mahesh Dixit has been appointed as the next Director of the Intelligence Bureau (IB), India’s top internal security agency. A 1993 batch IPS officer from the Telangana cadre, he will succeed the current IB Director Tapan Kumar Deka.
According to the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC), Dixit, who is currently serving as Special Director in the IB, has been granted a two year tenure extension. He brings extensive experience in intelligence gathering, counter terrorism operations, and national security management.
He played a key role in security planning during the abrogation of Article 370 and the reorganisation of Jammu and Kashmir. He was also instrumental in security arrangements for the successful G20 meeting held in Srinagar. In his new role, he will oversee internal intelligence operations and strengthen coordination among security agencies.
