Tension was reported in Rejinagar during the West Bengal Assembly bypoll on Tuesday, with a heated exchange taking place between police and political workers. Police alleged that some workers were attempting to disrupt the polling process, while political leaders and workers raised allegations of police bias. The situation reportedly escalated into a confrontation, following which some political workers were detained.
The incident took place amid tight security arrangements in Rejinagar, where polling began at 7 am. Reports said Aam Janata Unnayan Party leader Humayun Kabir was also detained after a heated argument with police following the casting of his vote. The allegations made by political groups and the police could not be independently established from the incident reports.
