Karnataka Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar strongly condemned the Delhi Police’s handling of elected representatives who were allegedly dragged away, detained and manhandled during a peaceful protest in the national capital. He said Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and other INDIA leaders were exercising their democratic right to question the electoral process, seek accountability and demand answers. Shivakumar said the treatment of Priyanka Gandhi and other women leaders was deeply disturbing.
Shivakumar said issues concerning SIR, electoral rolls and the protection of every citizen’s vote require transparency and answers, not force or manhandling. He said democracy cannot be strengthened by suppressing dissent and stressed that those in power must have the courage to listen and respond to questions. Reiterating his conviction, he said, “The truth is on our side. You cannot break our courage.” He also stressed the need to protect the sanctity of every vote and people’s faith in democracy.
