Two-Wheeler Ambulances for Faster Medical Care

The Central Government has proposed amendments to the Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989, allowing the use of two-wheeler vehicles as ambulances. The move aims to provide faster medical services in rural and remote areas. L2 category two-wheelers are expected to be permitted for ambulance use under the proposal.

The Centre also plans to introduce specific norms for the maintenance, registration and fitness of these vehicles. The permission will be limited to areas identified by state governments. The draft notification invites objections and suggestions within 30 days, after which a final notification will be issued.
