A tragic incident took place at a Sanskrit school in Chaitanya Vihar, Vrindavan, Uttar Pradesh, where four students died after allegedly inhaling toxic gas while attempting to clean an underground water tank. The school, run by Ashish Kumar Sharma from Madhya Pradesh, has around 200 students, with nearly 100 of them staying in hostels on the campus. Students reportedly noticed a foul smell coming from the underground tank late Tuesday night and decided to clean it.
The tank was around 12 to 14 feet deep, and the water was initially pumped out using a motor. When some water remained, one student entered the tank to clean it but reportedly lost consciousness shortly after due to the toxic gas. Four other students entered one after another in an attempt to rescue him and also became unconscious. All five were pulled out and rushed to a hospital. Four students, reportedly aged between 17 and 20, died during treatment, while a student named Rudra survived and is receiving medical care. The bodies were shifted to the mortuary, and the families of the deceased students were informed.
