Bollywood appears to have received a significant boost at the box office in 2026, with Dhurandhar 2 emerging as a major success. The film reportedly grossed around ₹1,800 crore worldwide, creating renewed optimism across the industry. However, the momentum was accompanied by setbacks, with Batwara 1947, starring Sunny Deol and produced by Aamir Khan, reportedly failing to meet expectations. At the same time, Awarapan 2 delivered an unexpected success. Sequels such as Border 2, Dhamaal 4, Bhoot Bangla and Welcome to the Jungle also reportedly performed well, while Akshay Kumar and Saif Ali Khan’s Haivaan emerged as one of the biggest disappointments of the year.
Interestingly, several films that arrived without massive pre-release expectations also turned into surprise successes. Hanuman Ansh, Mirzapur and Awarapan 2 reportedly created a strong impact at the box office. Hanuman Ansh, made on a reported budget of just ₹2 crore, is said to have earned around ₹300 crore net in India and more than ₹400 crore gross worldwide. Mirzapur, which previously enjoyed success as a web series, also reportedly collected close to ₹300 crore worldwide after its theatrical release. Meanwhile, Drishyam 3 is continuing its strong run, with trade circles claiming worldwide gross collections of more than ₹350 crore.
