The Congress party has reportedly intensified its efforts to fill the Governor quota MLC positions that are expected to fall vacant in Telangana soon. According to sources, the name of Pavitravani, daughter of veteran Telangana movement leader Konda Laxman Bapuji, is being considered for one of the seats. Belonging to the Padmashali community, Pavitravani is currently working as a medical professional.
Konda Laxman Bapuji is remembered as one of the prominent leaders of the Telangana movement and was the first minister to resign from his post during the 1969 agitation in support of the separate Telangana cause. Congress leaders have previously alleged that the families of Telangana movement activists were ignored by the previous BRS government. After becoming Chief Minister, Revanth Reddy’s government appointed Professor Kodandaram as an MLC and gave representation to activist families, including Shankaramma, mother of Srikanth Chary, and the granddaughter of Chakali Ilamma. Against this backdrop, the proposal to consider Bapuji’s daughter for a Governor quota MLC position has reportedly gained attention.
