

Dr. B. R. Ambedkar Open University is set to confer an honorary doctorate (Honoris Causa) on renowned filmmaker, writer, painter, photographer, theatre practitioner, musician and cultural archivist B. Narsing Rao. The honour recognises his distinguished contribution to cinema, literature, visual arts and the cultural heritage of Telangana.
Through landmark works such as Maa Bhoomi, Maa Ooru, Daasi and Matti Manushulu, Narsing Rao brought Telangana’s landscapes, dialects, folk traditions and social realities to national and international audiences. His multidisciplinary body of work has also played a significant role in preserving the region’s cultural memory and highlighting Telangana’s distinct artistic identity within Indian cinema and the wider arts. His versatility and enduring contribution have earned him the distinction of being regarded as “Telangana’s Renaissance Man.”
