The much talked about Bollywood film The Dirty Picture is set to return with a sequel. Released in 2011, the bold drama starring Vidya Balan became a box-office hit and earned appreciation for its portrayal of a woman navigating fame, glamour and social criticism. Producer Ekta Kapoor has now revealed plans for The Dirty Picture 2, nearly 15 years after the original film, sparking excitement among movie enthusiasts.
Speaking on a recent podcast, Ekta Kapoor said the sequel would explore another powerful story relevant to society today. She recalled that the first film was inspired by the life of late actress Silk Smitha and said she never viewed her merely as a victim, but as a woman who expressed her sexuality boldly. Kapoor noted that perspectives on women’s sexuality have evolved, with personal choice becoming an important part of the conversation. She hinted that the sequel would draw inspiration from another prominent real-life personality but did not reveal the cast or director. The film is expected to present a fresh perspective on women and modern society rather than simply repeat the original story.
