Actress and BJP MP Kangana Ranaut has approached the Delhi High Court seeking protection against obscene and sexually explicit content allegedly being circulated about her on social media. Her lawyer told the court that several posts contain fake news, manipulated material and AI-generated content that falsely portrays her as making statements she never made. The petition argues that such material harms her reputation and violates her personality rights.
Kangana Ranaut currently represents the Mandi Lok Sabha constituency in Himachal Pradesh. Justice Vikas Mahajan, who heard her personality rights petition, issued notices to the respondents and indicated that interim directions may be considered in the case. During the proceedings, the court also referred to a personality rights case filed by actor Vijay Deverakonda, whose lawyer alleged that his personality was being commercially exploited without permission. Several other celebrities, including Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Abhishek Bachchan, Salman Khan and actor-politician Pawan Kalyan, have also approached courts seeking protection of their personality rights. Spiritual leader Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, podcaster Raj Shamani and cricketer Abhishek Sharma are among others who have sought similar legal protection.
