Actor Tanushree Dutta has responded to criticism over her remarks about veteran actor Nana Patekar following his death, stating that she will not be intimidated into remaining silent. In a recent live video, Dutta questioned why she was being criticised for speaking about the late actor while Ravana effigies are burned during Hindu festivals. She also described Patekar as “cunning,” “manipulative” and a “liar,” maintaining that she was not afraid to speak what she believed to be the truth.
Dutta had accused Patekar of harassment on the sets of the 2009 film Horn Ok Pleassss, bringing the allegations into wider public discussion during India’s #MeToo movement in 2018. Patekar denied the allegations, and police closed the case in 2019, citing insufficient evidence. In 2025, a Mumbai court dismissed the criminal proceedings on the ground that the complaint had been filed beyond the legally prescribed time limit. Dutta’s latest remarks have renewed debate over discussing allegations after a person’s death and how the experiences of those making such allegations should be addressed.
