Tollywood has witnessed several unexpected changes at the box office over the past few years. At various points, theatres have struggled to attract audiences, raising concerns across the industry. A combination of factors, including audience expectations, the availability of compelling content and delays in major-star releases, has contributed to periods of sluggish theatrical business. Even this year, the market reportedly remained relatively quiet after the Sankranti season until films such as Dhurandhar 2 and Ustaad brought renewed attention to theatres.
The momentum appeared to improve again around Peddi and continued into the period leading up to The Paradise. However, the latter reportedly did not maintain the kind of extended theatrical run that could sustain audience interest. With Dasara approaching, Jailer 2 and Ranabaali are among the releases expected to generate renewed excitement. Their performance will depend on audience response, word of mouth and the advantage of the holiday season. Strong reviews could help revive theatrical footfalls, while a disappointing response may leave the industry facing another slow phase.
