Vijay Deverakonda, who became one of Telugu cinema’s most popular stars with back-to-back successes such as Geetha Govindam and Taxiwaala in 2018, is now facing a crucial phase in his career. After those films, projects including Dear Comrade, World Famous Lover and Liger failed to deliver the expected commercial impact. Although Kushi offered some relief with an average run, The Family Star and Kingdom also failed to create the kind of box-office momentum Vijay was looking for.
With several releases falling short of expectations, questions have increasingly emerged around Vijay’s theatrical market and his ability to deliver a major commercial success again. His upcoming film Ranabaali is therefore being closely watched by both audiences and trade circles. The period action drama is directed by Rahul Sankrityan and stars Vijay Deverakonda and Rashmika Mandanna in the lead roles, with Arnold Vosloo in a key role. The film has completed its shoot and is scheduled for a worldwide theatrical release on October 16, 2026.
Ranabaali is set against a 19th-century South Indian backdrop during British rule and presents Vijay in the titular warrior role, while Rashmika plays Jayamma. The film is being positioned as a large-scale period action drama and is arriving during the Dussehra festive season. For Vijay, the film is more than just another release; its theatrical response could play an important role in determining whether he can regain his earlier box-office momentum.
