Telangana Minister Uttam Kumar Reddy has strongly criticised the detention of Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi during a protest over alleged irregularities in the revision of electoral rolls. He said the Centre should not target Rahul Gandhi for raising questions about electoral transparency and protecting voting rights through democratic means. Reddy demanded public answers from the Election Commission on allegations concerning voter deletions and electoral irregularities.
Uttam Kumar Reddy said Rahul Gandhi could be detained, but the questions surrounding citizens’ right to vote could not be silenced. He stressed that even the wrongful deletion of a single eligible voter’s name would undermine democratic rights. The minister called for an impartial examination of allegations backed by evidence and urged authorities to place the findings before the public. He also said the credibility of constitutional institutions depends on public trust and accountability, not on the height of police barricades.
