Tamil Nadu Police have registered a case against DMK supporter and party functionary Anbanandhan Ariyappan over an Instagram video allegedly containing objectionable remarks against Chief Minister Vijay. Police invoked multiple provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) while registering the FIR. Officials said the action was taken based on the nature of the content shared on social media, and the matter is under investigation.
The development comes a day after Chief Minister Vijay delivered a strongly worded speech in the Assembly criticising the previous DMK government, which triggered sharp reactions from opposition leaders and party supporters. The FIR has since sparked a political controversy, with DMK leaders alleging that police visited Ariyappan's residence late at night to intimidate critics of the government. The ruling side, however, maintains that the case was registered strictly in accordance with the law. The incident has further intensified the ongoing political confrontation between TVK and DMK, with social media continuing to be a key battleground.
