Three leaders of the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) were detained in New Delhi after allegedly entering Jantar Mantar without authorisation and raising slogans demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. The leaders — Saurav Das, Ashutosh Ranka and Ajinkya Shinde — were reportedly detained on Tuesday after crossing barricades at the protest site, which had recently been removed from the list of designated protest venues. The incident occurred amid continuing demonstrations over alleged irregularities in the revision of electoral rolls.
A court subsequently sent the three leaders to five days of judicial custody, according to reports published on Wednesday. Police have reportedly booked them on allegations including trespassing, violating prohibitory orders, breaching a peace bond and obstructing a public servant from performing official duties. The protests are part of a wider campaign seeking action over alleged voter-list irregularities and calling for Gyanesh Kumar’s resignation. These allegations remain contested, and the reported charges should not be treated as convictions.
