New Delhi has been placed on heightened security alert ahead of a planned protest by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) at Jantar Mantar on October 10. Delhi Police reportedly denied permission for the demonstration, citing public safety, law-and-order concerns and alleged violations of protest guidelines. Security personnel, including Rapid Action Force members, have been deployed in sensitive areas of central Delhi. Barricades have also been erected, while access restrictions have reportedly been imposed at some Metro stations.
According to a ground-level update from around 9 a.m., only a small number of protesters had reportedly reached Jantar Mantar. Several people were allegedly taken into preventive custody at different locations and transported to local police stations, while CJP leaders were reportedly not visible near the venue at that time. These details have not been independently verified. The protest has been called to demand the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. Further clarity on the situation is expected as the day progresses and authorities issue additional information.
