Delhi Police have registered a First Information Report (FIR) against Congress MP Bimol Akoijam following allegations of sexual harassment by students at Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), Delhi. The case was registered at Vasant Kunj North Police Station based on a complaint by the university’s chief security officer. The allegations reportedly include inappropriate touching without consent, showing obscene images and seeking sexual favours. Akoijam, who represents the Inner Manipur Lok Sabha constituency, was recently removed from his professorial duties at the university following the complaints.
According to the report, 11 female students from JNU’s Centre for the Study of Social Systems raised allegations against Akoijam. They reportedly accused him of inappropriate conduct during viva examinations, classes and at his campus residence, as well as allegedly offering higher marks in exchange for sexual favours. A university internal committee investigated the complaints and recommended action. Akoijam has denied the allegations and said he is preparing to challenge the university’s decision in court. The allegations remain subject to legal proceedings.
