Senior advocate Harish Salve has criticised the opposition parties’ march towards the Supreme Court, describing the move as an example of political overreach. He alleged that some political groups were using autonomous constitutional institutions to serve their own political interests. Salve expressed concern that such demonstrations could undermine the dignity and sanctity of these institutions.
Salve said there was nothing wrong with opposing the government through political means. However, he maintained that dragging courts into political controversies was inappropriate. He also warned that turning the country’s highest constitutional institutions into political platforms could have serious consequences. His remarks underscored the importance of preserving the independence and public trust associated with constitutional institutions, even amid political disagreements.
