APCC president YS Sharmila launched a strong attack on the BJP over allegations that the site where a Congress rally was held in Haldwani was later purified with Ganga water by BJP and Hindutva organisations. Sharmila said the alleged purification, reportedly linked to Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge’s presence at the venue, reflected discrimination against Dalits. She accused the BJP of promoting caste arrogance and a divisive mindset.
Sharmila said the Congress would continue its fight to protect equality, unity, social justice and constitutional values. She called for district-level marches and Satyagraha programmes on the evening of August 14 under the leadership of District Congress Committees. She urged DCCs, Block Congress Committees, party wings, leaders and workers to participate in large numbers and send a strong message against what she described as discriminatory and divisive politics.
