Former minister and BRS deputy floor leader Talasani Srinivas Yadav participated in a graduate voter registration programme held at Belvedere Garden in Padmarao Nagar under the Sanath Nagar Assembly constituency. Speaking on the occasion, he said the right to vote is a constitutional right and alleged that certain decisions of the Election Commission were affecting voters’ rights. He criticised the conduct of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, alleging that the Election Commission had not handled the process responsibly.
Talasani further alleged that people without adequate understanding of the process were appointed as Booth Level Officers (BLOs), resulting in confusion in several areas. He claimed that lakhs of voters had been deleted from electoral rolls during the process. He also questioned why voter registration is undertaken every time graduate elections are held and argued that the exercise should be limited to registering newly eligible voters. He called for measures to ensure that eligible voters are not deprived of their voting rights.
