The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) called for a farmers’ protest in Ellareddy of Kamareddy district, demanding the withdrawal of the Urea App being used in fertilizer distribution. Ahead of the protest, former minister Vemula Prashanth Reddy was placed under house arrest at his residence in Banjara Hills, Hyderabad, while preparing to travel to the protest venue. The action triggered criticism from senior BRS leaders.
BRS Working President K.T. Rama Rao and senior leader T. Harish Rao strongly condemned the house arrest and expressed solidarity with Prashanth Reddy through a phone conversation. They alleged that the government was attempting to suppress leaders who were raising farmers’ issues. The leaders stated that farmers across Telangana were facing difficulties due to an alleged shortage of urea and claimed that the app-based distribution system had created additional hardships. They also criticized the use of police action against those highlighting farmers’ concerns.
