Former minister and BRS leader T Harish Rao has demanded that the Telangana government continuously lift Godavari water from Mid Manair and fill the Ranganayaka Sagar reservoir. He participated in a programme organised by the Excise Department at Akkenapalli in Siddipet district’s Nangunur mandal on Thursday, where 500 toddy palm saplings were planted along with Sarpanch Renuka. Speaking on the occasion, Harish Rao said water was currently being pumped into Ranganayaka Sagar for only eight hours. He recalled that during the previous BRS government, toddy palms were planted along tank bunds under Mission Kakatiya to create livelihood opportunities for toddy tappers. He alleged that the Congress government had ignored such initiatives. Harish Rao has also previously urged the government to utilise Godavari water to replenish reservoirs linked to the Kaleshwaram project.
Harish Rao also questioned how the State government could enter into an agreement to sell 800 MW of power to Rajasthan while two lakh agricultural electricity connections were still pending. During the programme, he inaugurated a machine used for preparing organic manure and later inspected the electricity substation at Narmetta. He has recently called for the continuous operation of Kaleshwaram pumps to utilise available Godavari flows and replenish reservoirs for irrigation needs.
