Assam Congress president Gaurav Gogoi on October 2 launched a sharp attack on Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, claiming that Sarma would face a case and eventually go to jail if Congress leader Rahul Gandhi becomes Prime Minister. Addressing a campaign gathering, Gogoi said a case would be filed against the Assam Chief Minister the very next day after Rahul Gandhi assumes office.
Gogoi also alleged that the Narendra Modi government came to power through what he described as “vote theft.” He reiterated the Congress party’s criticism of the Election Commission and its handling of electoral rolls. These remarks were part of Gogoi’s campaign statements. Sarma, responding to the remarks, said election campaigns should focus on issues affecting voters rather than references to jail.
