Tensions prevailed near Jantar Mantar in New Delhi as INDIA bloc MPs attempted to stage a protest demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. Delhi Police stopped the buses carrying the opposition lawmakers before they could reach the designated protest site, citing the requirement for prior permission for demonstrations. Heavy security and multiple layers of barricading were deployed in the area to prevent the protesters from proceeding.
The confrontation intensified as several Congress MPs climbed onto the buses and raised slogans against the Election Commission. Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and other women MPs sat or lay down on the road in protest, while Rahul Gandhi also participated in the demonstration. Police subsequently detained Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi and several other opposition MPs and removed them from the protest site. Priyanka Gandhi also questioned the police action and objected to the manner in which the protesters were handled.
