Trinamool Congress MP Kalyan Banerjee has taken a U-turn after issuing an ultimatum to West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to choose between him and Abhishek Banerjee. Softening his stance, he described Abhishek as “like a son” and said a father has the ability to forgive a son’s mistakes, adding that he has forgiven him. He also alleged that democracy in West Bengal is under threat after the NDA came to power, stating that such a situation has never been witnessed in the state before.
Kalyan Banerjee also lashed out at MPs who left the TMC, claiming they failed to understand the BJP’s strategy and are now forced to survive under its leadership. He dismissed rumors of a merger between TMC and Congress. Earlier, he had strongly criticized Abhishek, accusing him of arrogance and disrespect towards seniors, even stating he would no longer represent him in a forgery case being heard in the Calcutta High Court. However, his latest remarks signal a clear shift in tone.
