Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) working president K. T. Rama Rao (KTR) has accused the Congress government in Telangana of attempting to privatise Singareni Collieries Company Limited and alleged large-scale irregularities in coal block tenders, site visit certification, open-cast mine tenders, coal production and machinery purchases. Addressing the Singareni Karmika Garjana public meeting organised by the Telangana Boggu Gani Karmika Sangham and the BRS in Godavarikhani, Peddapalli district, on Wednesday night, KTR demanded a comprehensive investigation by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) or a sitting judge. He questioned the cancellation of tenders for the Naini coal block and referred to claims that the decision had saved the government ₹30,000 crore. He also alleged irregularities worth around ₹10,000 crore under the site visit certification process and accused the government of deliberately delaying tenders, affecting coal production.
KTR further claimed that Singareni’s coal production had declined from 70 million tonnes in December 2023 to 58 million tonnes the following year, attributing the fall to tender delays and administrative failures. He alleged that around four million metric tonnes of coal had gone missing and that ₹6,317 crore had been diverted from Singareni’s funds over two years. He also accused the state government of delaying payments to the company and reducing workers’ profit-sharing benefits. Criticising the Congress government’s power management and borrowing, KTR said the interests of Singareni workers and the company needed to be protected. He called on workers to repeat the outcome of recent RTC union elections in the upcoming Singareni elections, arguing that the organisation needed leadership under K. Chandrashekar Rao. These claims were made by KTR at the public meeting and require independent verification.
