The Maharashtra government is considering an innovative measure to curb child marriages across the state. As part of the proposal, wedding invitation cards may be required to display the birth dates of both the bride and groom. Officials believe that such a rule would make it easier to verify the legal age of individuals before marriage and help prevent underage weddings.
Maharashtra Women and Child Development Minister Aditi Tatkare announced that the government is examining the proposal as part of its efforts to strengthen child marriage prevention. The matter is expected to be discussed in the state assembly before a final decision is taken. If implemented, the measure could become a significant step toward ensuring legal compliance in marriages and protecting children's rights.
