With the release of the local body election schedule in Andhra Pradesh by the State Election Commission, the main opposition YSR Congress Party (YCP) has intensified its election activities. As per the instructions of party president Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, the party's state coordinator Sajjala Ramakrishna Reddy has made it clear that candidates should be fielded without leaving any local body seat in the state.
He held a teleconference with observers and coordination teams of Parliament and Assembly constituencies. In view of the fact that the election process will be very fast, he suggested that all activities like candidate selection, collection of certificates, nominations and campaigning should be completed simultaneously. He directed that observers should be available at the field level for the next 15 to 20 days and guide the candidates. Candidates should immediately prepare their caste certification and no-objection documents. He clarified that if any obstacles are faced during the filing of nominations, they should be recorded along with video evidence.
On the other hand, YCP General Secretary Lella Appireddy submitted a memorandum to the State Election Commission. Party leaders across the state said that they are likely to face difficulties during nominations as they do not know the complete details of cases registered against candidates in various police stations (case numbers, station names). Therefore, they have asked the EC to take steps to provide a list of cases against candidates based on Aadhaar number or a certificate of no cases through local police stations within 24 hours. Sajjala revealed that a special system is being set up to send daily reports from field teams to the party central office.
