DMK chief and former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin’s remarks about TVK’s Dharapuram bypoll candidate P. Sathyabhama have triggered a political controversy. During an election campaign in Dharapuram, Stalin referred to Sathyabhama as “Suitcase Bama” and “Somersault Bama” while criticising her decision to leave AIADMK and join TVK. His reference to her physical appearance has been criticised by TVK leaders as body-shaming.
Stalin also accused the ruling TVK of horse trading and alleged that the party was attempting to split the AIADMK. TVK leaders, including Health Minister Arun Raj, condemned Stalin’s remarks and demanded an apology. TVK has rejected allegations that it bought opposition MLAs, maintaining that the legislators resigned from their posts and subsequently joined the party.
