Dr. Baidyanath Ghosh, son of Trinamool Congress rebel MP Kakoli Ghosh, has served legal notices to former West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and senior TMC leaders Kalyan Banerjee, Saugata Roy, and Mahua Moitra. He demanded a public apology over allegations that he had sought a party ticket to contest from the Barasat Assembly constituency. Dr. Ghosh warned that he would initiate a defamation lawsuit if the leaders failed to respond to the notices.
The controversy stems from remarks made by Mamata Banerjee at a recent public event, where she stated that some individuals had approached her seeking an MLA ticket from Barasat. Following internal opposition, the request was reportedly rejected. Amid speculation that Kakoli Ghosh supported the NDA after her son was denied a ticket, Dr. Baidyanath Ghosh strongly refuted the claims, stating that he never sought any political position. Meanwhile, the TMC has undertaken organizational restructuring, appointing Arnab Banerjee as Youth Wing President in place of Sayoni Ghosh and naming Alifa Ahmed as President of the Trinamool Mahila Congress.
