The Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games concluded in Japan with a spectacular 90-minute closing ceremony featuring vibrant displays of Japanese culture, music, dance, lights and fireworks. The event was attended by Japan’s Crown Prince Akishino, while Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) President Sheikh Joaan Bin Hamad Al Thani officially declared the Games closed. The OCA flag and Asian Games torch were handed over to representatives of Qatar, which will host the next edition in Doha in 2030. Athletes from 45 Asian countries participated in the closing celebrations after a Games that produced more than 350 records, including over 50 world records.
India’s flag bearer at the closing ceremony was shooter Neeru Dhanda, who won two gold medals and a silver at the Games. The ceremony featured a parade of athletes, Japanese cultural performances, a laser show and visuals highlighting memorable sporting moments. The OCA also said India-Pakistan cricket and hockey matches attracted the highest viewership in Asian Games history. Despite logistical challenges during the event, OCA officials said the Games saw strong sporting performances and a nearly 20% rise in revenue compared with the previous edition.
