A fresh controversy has emerged following Argentina’s victory over Algeria in the FIFA World Cup 2026. Lionel Messi starred in the match with a remarkable hat-trick, helping Argentina secure a crucial win. However, Algeria has reportedly lodged a complaint with FIFA, alleging poor officiating and claiming that several key decisions by the referee influenced the outcome of the match. The complaint has been submitted to FIFA’s Refereeing Commission for review.
According to the complaint, Messi was involved in an incident with Algeria captain Aissa Mandi that allegedly violated match regulations, yet no disciplinary action was taken. Algeria also raised concerns over an incident involving Argentina midfielder Alexis Mac Allister. The North African side has accused the referee of favouring Argentina throughout the game and has requested a full investigation into the disputed moments. FIFA and the Argentine Football Association have not yet issued an official response.
