BCCI Officials Visit Centre of Excellence

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) president Mithun Manhas, secretary Devajit Saikia and other board officials recently visited the Centre of Excellence (CoE) and held a special meeting with its head, VVS Laxman. The visit comes amid discussions over player injuries and the facilities available to athletes at the centre. Saikia and Laxman praised the work being done at the facility and recalled the significant role played by former BCCI secretary and current ICC chairman Jay Shah in establishing the centre.

Saikia said Jay Shah played a crucial role in transforming nearly 40 acres of barren land into a modern Centre of Excellence. He was involved in discussions with the BCCI Apex Council and pushed for the project to be completed on a fast-track basis. According to Saikia, Jay Shah personally intervened several times to resolve legal and land-related hurdles. Laxman said the facility was completed with world-class infrastructure in just two years and credited Shah for his sustained involvement with the project. Construction began on February 14, 2022, while the CoE started operations in November 2024.
