England Women made a stunning start to their ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 campaign with a commanding 87-run victory over Sri Lanka in their Group 2 opener at Birmingham. Batting first, England posted a massive 219/1 in 20 overs. Opener Danni Wyatt-Hodge starred with an unbeaten 105 off 62 balls, including 13 boundaries and a six. Amy Jones contributed 53 runs, while captain Nat Sciver-Brunt added a quick-fire 46 off 22 deliveries to power England to an imposing total.
Chasing 220, Sri Lanka struggled from the outset and lost wickets at regular intervals. Harshitha Samarawickrama scored 29 runs, while Nilakshika Silva made 39, but the rest of the batting lineup failed to build partnerships. Sri Lanka were eventually bowled out for 132 runs. Freya Kemp led England’s bowling attack with four wickets, while Sophie Ecclestone and Charlie Dean claimed two wickets each. Danni Wyatt-Hodge was named Player of the Match for her match-winning century.
