France, one of the favourites to lift the FIFA World Cup title, began its campaign in impressive fashion with a 3-1 victory over Senegal in a Group I encounter. Star forward Kylian Mbappé lived up to expectations by scoring twice and playing a decisive role in the French triumph. With his brilliant performance, Mbappé also became France’s all-time leading goal scorer, adding another milestone to his illustrious career.
The first half witnessed a fierce battle, with both teams creating opportunities but failing to break the deadlock. Senegal defended resolutely and worked hard to contain Mbappé, while also threatening the French goal on several occasions. The breakthrough finally arrived in the 66th minute when Mbappé found the net. Bradley Barcola doubled France’s lead in the 82nd minute, making it 2-0. Senegal briefly fought back through Ibrahim Mbaye in stoppage time, reducing the deficit to 2-1. However, Mbappé responded immediately with a stunning long-range strike from nearly 30 metres, sealing a convincing 3-1 victory for France.
