

India’s women’s hockey team delivered a commanding performance to lift the prestigious FIH Women’s Nations Cup 2026 title, defeating New Zealand 2-0 in the final on Sunday. With this victory, India secured the championship for the second time, sending a strong message ahead of the upcoming Asian Games. Navneet Kaur and Sunelita Toppo scored a goal each as the Indian side outclassed the Kiwis in the title clash.
Sunelita Toppo opened the scoring in the 15th minute, helping India establish control early in the contest. Forward Lalremsiami, who impressed throughout the final, was named Player of the Match. Deepika enjoyed a remarkable tournament, finishing with six goals and sharing the Player of the Tournament award with USA’s Ashley Sessa. Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated the team, praising their exceptional performance and expressing hope that the triumph would inspire more youngsters to take up hockey.
