Team India is set for a crucial three-day warm-up match against Sri Lanka XI ahead of the opening Test of the series, which begins on August 15. Led by Shubman Gill, the visitors will use the practice game to address the shortcomings that surfaced during the recent home Test series against New Zealand and South Africa, where the batting unit struggled against quality spin. The warm-up fixture will provide valuable exposure to Sri Lankan conditions and help the team finalise its playing combination before the opening Test.
India's batting line-up, featuring Shubman Gill, KL Rahul, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Rishabh Pant, will aim to gain confidence against the island nation's spin attack. With Jasprit Bumrah unavailable due to injury, Mohammed Siraj is expected to spearhead the pace attack alongside Prasidh Krishna and the young bowling unit. Sri Lanka XI, captained by Sonal Dinusha and featuring experienced players such as Lahiru Kumara, Vishwa Fernando and Ramesh Mendis, is expected to provide strong competition in what promises to be a valuable preparation for both teams.
