India will face two-time FIFA World Cup champions Uruguay in a friendly on Tuesday, just three days after suffering a 0-4 defeat against Brazil at Salt Lake Stadium. Ranked 138th in the world, India will look to correct its mistakes and put up a stronger fight against the 44th-ranked Uruguay. While stopping Uruguay from scoring would itself be a positive result for India, securing a draw will require an exceptional performance.
India can take confidence from its recent 1-1 draw against Panama, with Ryan Williams scoring in that match. Williams, along with Manvir Singh and Sahal Abdul Samad, showed promising moments against Brazil, particularly in the opening stages. Head coach Khalid Jamil acknowledged the limited recovery time but said the players are experienced enough to handle the demanding schedule. He stressed the need for India to remain defensively disciplined and avoid conceding early goals against a strong Uruguay side.
