

Indian boxers and wrestlers delivered a spectacular performance at the 2026 Asian Games in Japan. On Friday, India won three gold medals within a span of just 30 minutes. Ankush Panghal and Parveen Hooda struck gold in boxing, while Sujeet Kalkal secured the top prize in wrestling. With these victories, India’s gold-medal tally reached 15, while its overall medal count rose to 75.
In women’s 65kg boxing, Parveen Hooda defeated Chinese Taipei’s Chen Nien-chin 3-2 in a thrilling final to win gold. In the men’s event, Ankush Panghal beat his Korean opponent 4-0 to clinch the title. In the men’s freestyle 65kg wrestling final, Sujeet Kalkal staged a remarkable comeback after trailing 2-9, scoring eight consecutive points to defeat Tajikistan’s Abdulmahzhid Kudiev 10-9. His victory marked India’s first wrestling gold at the ongoing Asian Games.
