Reports circulating in cricket circles suggest that former India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni could return to Team India in a mentoring role for the 2027 ICC ODI World Cup. According to the reports, the BCCI has approached Dhoni with a request to guide the national team during the prestigious tournament. It is further claimed that Dhoni has agreed to the proposal, subject to certain conditions regarding team selection and squad planning.
The reports also indicate that the current coaching structure could feature Gautam Gambhir as Head Coach, Ryan ten Doeschate as Assistant Coach, T. Dilip as Fielding Coach, Morne Morkel as Bowling Coach, and Sitanshu Kotak as Batting Coach, with Dhoni serving as Mentor. Additionally, it is being speculated that Dhoni is keen on including Rishabh Pant in the World Cup squad and playing XI, considering him a crucial option for the finisher’s role. However, neither the BCCI nor Dhoni has officially confirmed these developments.
